1973 -1976 was a period in reggaes’ history when the music coming from Kingston, Jamaica, was at it’s peak.So many talented singers who sang soulful / righteous songs found there way onto tape.Maybe it was the competition between studios like Randys ,Channel 1 and Harry J’s, set against the quality of the singers available to sing these tunes. But whatever caused this explosion, the mighty voices of Horace Andy, Cornell Campbell, Johnny Clarke and Ronnie Davis never sounded better.

Another factor, as you can see from the individual track notes that we unearthed researching these tunes. The cream of Kingstons’ musicians were also used to make these tracks. The Barrett Brothers,Carlton and Aston, we can see cut their musical teeth on many tunes. While also honing their drum and bass sound that was to be their musical legacy. Working as part of Bob Marleys',The Wailers.

The great Santa Davis played drums alongside Robbie Shakespeare on many of these cuts,he came in the period just prior to Sly and Robbies’ partnership, from then on their work always seemed intertwined.

Other unsung heroes from Jamaicas’ musical heritage are also found on these recordings.

Guitar greats like Tony Chin and Chinna Smith worked alongside keyboard wizard Winston Wright. Also a young man named Augustus Pablo. The mystical melodica player that unbeknown to many, played keyboards and organ on many recording sessions around this time.

The tracks as you can see were culled together from sessions recorded at the fore mentioned legendary studios. Then taken to King Tubbys' home studio at 18 Drummlie Avenue in the Waterhouse district of Kingston. This is where the great Dubmeister himself would record the vocal tracks.A method in which he preferred to work and then mix the tracks Tubby Style....

We have travelled to Jamaica and listened to hours of master tapes to bring this set to you.So please sit back and enjoy what we believe to be a wicked set by Kingstons finest.ALLSTARS one and all...One more time Mr Tubby if you please, roll the tape........
